Celebrating with Abyss

Watching the returns and things are looking good enough that we've gotten into the 2007 Abyss. I found it too green when it was released, and this is the first bottle I've pulled out that was aged. Wow! The flavors have really come together and it is dense and chocolatey. Holy moly...

  1. I'd pull out one of my 6 bottles and toast with you, but none are cold, and I still have a cold bottle of Avery's "Ale to the Chief" to open yet tonight....

  2. I went with Oak Aged Yeti for the historic night. Nice spicy flavor to it.

  3. We also had a Dissident, and a bottle each of 2007 vintage Wassail and Snow Cap.

  4. I celebrated with Double Bastard. ;-)

I had both the 06 and 07 Abyss on draught right after the 07 was released and also found the 07 to be a bit green and raw though the potential was obvious. The 06, on the other hand, was heaven in a glass. I'm looking forward to trying the 08 and 07 side by side. Sure wish I had some of the 06 for a 3-year vertical!

  6. With everyone celebrating with Deschutes products, talk about your reaching across the aisle.

I chose Double Bastard myself at the Green Dragon. I took my mixed-race 9 month old daughter (until her bath time) to celebrate with fellow liberals, whispering in her ear that she really could grow up to be President. (maybe not now, but in our lifetimes there will be a female President)
