Not a lot of time to go into detail, but if you happen to be reading this before heading out, I'd recommend the Widmer Babushka Stout (burly, with the berries adding just a minor key), Hair of the Dog Jim (huge beer, super intense, rich, spicy, bourbony, amazing), and Dupont Avec Les Bons Voeux. I'd skip the weedy Lagunitas Black Pepper Stout.
Also, the upstairs seemed way less crowded in the early part of yesterday's visit.
Did you try the Cascade Baltic Porter? I thought it was one of the stars of the show.
ReplyDeleteJim tasted like grapefruit juice.

ReplyDeleteThe Jim 06, 07 or 08?
The 06 definitely had a Sherry and slight sour note... not a good sour note, more of a "the beer has turned, sour note."
I thought the 07 had smoothed out nicely from last year.
08 was all over the board. Big wood Oaky flavors and aroma with sappy flavor notes. Big malt and roast. Very rich, needs to age a wee bit... ;-}
Did anybody taste Eric from New Belgium? Excellent! Sour Peach Belgian... amazing....
Can't wait till next year!
I can't wait to try HOTD's Jim. It's my Portland buddy's new seasonal fave.
