Thanks much to Tempus Dictum for taking the plunge and buying the first ad on Beervana. As intended, I know nothing about Tempus Dictum and didn't, until they bought this space, know they existed. But I am appreciative to the company for sparing me from having to look at that "your ad here" spot on the blog for another day. Thanks!
Oh, and while we're doing blog business, I should mention that I've tightened up content moderation following a massive hit on the site last night. I've previously had moderated comments for any post older than 7 days; I ratcheted it back to three. I'll relax it if things settle back down.
Laissez les Bon Temps Roulez. Allegedly, Cajun for 'Let the Good Times Roll'.
ReplyDeletebtw, I purchased a 6er of Abita Turbodog Brown Ale before the NFL Conference Championship games and . . . the Saints won through. I meant to buy some Brooklyn Beer in support of the Jets; did not; the Jets lost.
Correlation does not imply causation but I will never know.
Thanks for the commitment to beer, Jeff. I don't suspect there's a high correlation between people who read about beer and people who need custom software... But at least I know our money's going to a good cause!
ReplyDeleteWay to go Jeff. Humungous!

ReplyDeleteCongrats!
ReplyDeleteBTW, how massive was your hit? I normally get 2-3 spam posts a day, but a month or so ago, I got 100+ in the span of a couple minutes.
Cheers!

On Friday I got thirty or so (saved by the moderation after 7 days), and I just caught the bastard going through them again tonight-but I shut him down before he got very far.
ReplyDelete@gerp: There might not be a high correlation between Jeff's readers and those needing your software, but it looks like you guys to custom PCBs too.
ReplyDeleteThere is a large Arduino following within the homebrew community. If you take a look at homebrewtalk.com there are a lot of people using the microcontroller to run automated brewing systems.
I just got an Arduino for Chistmas and am going to do a series of articles involving it in the near future. I am setting mine up to monitor a temperature sensor in my fermenter and a photo gate on my airlock that that will measure the bubbles/min. The data is output to an lcd screen and input is controlled by a Wiichuck.
There is probably a decent market for breakout boards that are designed specifically for brewing applications, like interfacing with sensors or the relays used to control march pumps.
Cheers!

@Kevin: Definitely! One of us (Don Davis - aka feurig) actually gives a DorkbotPDX Arduino Cult Induction class at the PNCA. http://dorkbotpdx.org/wiki/workshops
ReplyDeleteWe haven't built any brewing controls, yet. But it's on the agenda.
